The motorcycle market concerns the motorized two-wheeler assembly . It thus brings together the different categories of motorcycles: the 50 cc (cc) (mopeds), the 51 to 125 cc (motorcycles and small engines) and the over 125 cc (motorcycles and large engines)

The market brings together manufacturers and their production sites, importers, spare parts wholesalers, dealers (distributors and repairers) and online second-hand sales announcement platforms. The main players are distributors and manufacturers

  • The distributors of motorcycles and spare parts are not only sales centres but also maintenance and repair centres with the status of dealers, independents or distribution networks.
  • The builders some of which have a production plant in France, such as the Japanese Yamaha (MBK Industrie) or the Indian Mahindra

The world motorcycle market is experiencing strong international growth, thanks in particular to at the request of South-East Asian countries, where the motorcycle, which is practical and accessible, is often more popular than the car in the choice of daily means of transport

The French market is recording a very good year 2019 and is growing in almost all its segments. France is the leading European country in terms of sales, and the turnover of dealers and repairers has recorded an average annual growth of 4.9% between 2015 and 2019. The market obviously experienced a period of standstill in March and April 2020, due to the Covid-19 crisis, but this does not seem to have affected its pre-crisis dynamics. In this respect, it recorded two very good months in May and June 2020.

The French market is primarily driven by demand from the very large community of French enthusiasts. Consumption is in fact motivated by the dissemination of a positive image of the motorcycle, around the values conveyed by sports competitions in particular. (cross-country, enduro, etc.)
