1.1 Definición y alcance del estudio
Turismo en bicicleta, o cicloturismo, es una forma de descubrir un territorio o región en bicicleta, para visitar sus principales atractivos turísticos.
El cicloturismo representa un importante mercado, en su mayoría relacionado con el alojamiento y la restauración, con más de 100 millones de pernoctaciones registrado en Francia en 2019. Francia es el segundo destino más importante de Europa para el cicloturismo, justo detrás de Alemania. Los turistas extranjeros representados 20% del total de ciclistas en Francia en 2019, siendo las nacionalidades más representadas por los ciclistas Alemania y Reino Unido
Existen 7 categorías diferentes de establecimientos/asociaciones que conforman toda la industria del cicloturismo:
- Instalaciones de alojamiento
- Restaurantes
- Atracciones turísticas
- Oficinas de Turismo
- Empresas de alquiler de bicicletas
- Empresas de reparación de bicicletas
- Los carriles bici
Todos estos establecimientos, a excepción de los carriles bici, cuentan en su mayoría con la certificación France Vélo Tourisme " Casa de la bicicleta ". A partir de 2020, habrá más de 5.000 establecimientos con esta certificación en Francia. También hay otros establecimientos (que no tienen la certificación "Accueil Vélo") que también contribuyen a la industria del cicloturismo en Francia.
En cuanto a los carriles bici, Francia se divide en 3 tipos:
- Vías verdes
- Véloroutes (Carriles bici regionales)
- EuroVelo (Red Europea de Ciclismo)
Las vías verdes son las más comunes en el país, mientras que sólo hay 10 rutas EuroVelo en Francia en 2020. Sin embargo, las rutas EuroVelo son las más populares entre los ciclistas y es donde los turistas gastan más dinero. La Ruta de la Costa Atlántica ( Ciclismo en Francia) es el más popular en el país, con unos beneficios económicos de más de 100 millones de euros en 2018 .
Los agentes del turismo ciclista apuestan por la diversificación aprovechando las asociaciones locales con las oficinas de turismo, los hoteles y los restaurantes para ofrecer a los turistas una experiencia turística lo más rica posible.
No hay barreras tecnológicas ni legislativas para este mercado, que simplemente requiere habilidades deportivas, conocimiento de las reglas del ciclismo y una atracción especial por la bicicleta.
