Connected air purifiers are particularly on the rise, with expected growth of 10.1% p.a. between 2021 and 2030, the segment being valued at $14.40 billion in 2030.

Demand in France is particularly dynamic, with a growth rate of 18.7% forecast between 2020 and 2030, supported by major R&D efforts on the part of leading brands such as SEB, Rowenta, Dyson and Philips.

Trends and demand in the French air purifier market

Demand on the French market is obviously driven by worsening air pollution and the proven harmful effects of pollutants on human health.

The professional sector - hospitals, educational establishments, retail outlets and offices - appears to be the main consumer of air purifiers, accounting for 57% of sales on the global market. The residential sector follows with around a third of market share. The industrial sector, although smaller (11%), is expected to be the fastest-growing, with a forecast annual increase of 8.2%.

Construction activity plays a crucial role in demand dynamics.

Non-residential building starts represent an average annual floor area of between 470 and 480 million square meters.

Residential construction is rebounding strongly, with around 470,000 new housing starts in 2021.

In addition to construction-related demand, there is also strong demand from industry, transport, public buildings and schools.

The French market is a major importer.

Awareness of indoor air pollution and respiratory problems has heightened consumer interest in air purification solutions, with market forecasts of a five- to ten-fold increase.

There are five main types of air purifier in France:

  • Photo-catalysis air purifiers;

  • Plasma air purifiers.

In industry, air purifiers are mainly used to filter and remove toxic residues in hospitals and airplanes. In more domestic applications, air purifiers are also found in offices and homes to improve hygiene and quality of life for employees and residents.

The market for air purifiers is set to grow at a very dynamic average rate of 7.3% per year from 2023 to 2030. It is driven by demand from Asia, particularly China. Today, the market is developing very rapidly in France (CAGR of 18.7% between 2020 and 2030), despite fairly high prices.s with industrialists and city dwellers ready to equip themselves to combat the proven harmful effects of pollution on the human body.
