MARKET OVERVIEW

1.1 Definition and scope of study

Refrigerant compressors are thermodynamic machine components that are used to compress refrigerant gas to produce heat transfer. They are used in many areas, such as household appliances, transport, building, and industry. There are different types of products related to the refrigerant compressor market, which include refrigerators, freezers, refrigerated vehicles, and air conditioners. Such market can be segmented on the basis of the construction (open, hermetic, semi-hermetic), of the refrigerant (propane, carbon dioxide, hydrofluorocarbons, ammonia), of the capacity (less than 100 kW, 100-400 kW, above 400 kW), and of the type of use (domestic, commercial, industrial).

The global refrigerant compressor market was valued at $66.9 billion in 2019, and it is expected to reach a value of $90.4 billion by 2026, growing at a CAGR of 4.4% during the period 2020-2026.

Within the Italian refrigerant compressor market, Embraco is the leader company specialized in the realization of such products. Since the launch of this technology in 1998, Embraco has sold more than 11 million Fullmotion compressors worldwide, which are systems capable of reducing energy consumption by 25% compared to traditional refrigerators. If, from the very introduction of the Fullmotion model all Italian systems were switched to this one, the country would have saved about 5,000 GWh, equal to the electricity consumption of Rome for about 6 months.

Thanks to the worldwide increase in the production of compressors with Embraco Fullmotion technology, the company is actively contributing to the development of the global refrigeration market, which is required to comply with increasingly stringent energy consumption regulations. Therefore, such technology has been exported globally, and it allowed Embraco, as well as the Italian refrigerant compressor market, to gain notoriety worldwide.
