Summary

The global auto body repair market, valued at $185.98 billion in 2020, is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 2.1% from 2021 to 2028. Despite a severe downturn due to the pandemic—with significant losses as a result of declining car sales and production plant shutdowns—the market is expected to recover, driven by increased auto insurance underwriting and technological advancements. The European market held a dominant revenue share of 43.5% in 2020, while the Asia-Pacific region is forecasted to experience the fastest growth with a 3.8% CAGR. In Italy, the auto body and parts market faced a pandemic-induced slump with the turnover dropping by 490 million euros to 2.82 billion euros in 2020, and the production value also decreased by nearly 480 million euros to 2.73 billion euros. However, the used car market in Italy increased by over 11% in 2021, indicating growing demand for maintenance and repair services. Moreover, the introduction of digital platforms like Refinity™ aims to improve body shop efficiency, signaling a trend towards digitalization in the sector..**Evolving Trends in the Italian Bodywork Market** In recent years, Italy's bodywork market has witnessed a range of fluctuations influenced by a variety of factors such as consumer behavior, economic impacts, and unforeseen global events like the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite hurdles, certain segments within the market have shown resilience and growth, hinting at underlying dynamics that could shape the future of the industry. The demand for bodywork and auto parts in Italy has seen positive growth since 2014, with the market preferring spare parts for popular models like the Fiat Panda, Lancia Ypsilon, Renault Clio, and Citroen C3. Interestingly, the year 2021 experienced a significant surge, marking an increase of around 40 to 45 percent over the previous year. This indicates a robust demand in the aftermarket for auto body parts. For a deeper understanding of the bodywork sector, one must consider the car market as a major demand driver for bodywork. Data reveal a sharp decline in automotive manufacturing, with turnovers and the number of active companies in the area plummeting by approximately 25 to 30 percent in just two years, painting a concern for the sector's future. The used car market also plays a pivotal role in shaping demand for bodywork. An 11 percent increase in used car transactions was noted, with the market's value estimated to be between 15 and 20 billion euros. This uptick suggests a higher need for maintenance and repair services, translating into demand for the bodywork market. Traffic accidents, unfortunately, contribute as well. While the year 2021 saw a rise in road accidents, injuries, and fatalities compared to the previous year, these figures were still lower compared to pre-pandemic levels. Nevertheless, the occurrence of road accidents continues to necessitate repair services, sustaining a portion of demand within the bodywork market. In the realm of car types, gasoline cars saw a decrease of approximately 15 to 20 percent in registrations, while diesel cars faced a decline of around 25 to 30 percent. On a more positive note, registrations for electric cars have been on an upward trajectory, crossing the 65,000 mark, which can influence the need for specialized bodywork services. The regulatory environment is an instrumental factor in shaping business operations within the bodywork sector. Law no. 122/1992 segments the industry into mechatronics, body shops, and tire shops, with clear stipulations on the nature of repair work permissible. Compliance with such regulations is mandatory for the sustained.### Spotlight on Leading Market Players in the Italian Auto Bodywork Industry The Italian auto bodywork industry features a range of key players that cater to different segments of the market, from manufacturing to repair services. Summary and extracts

1 Market Overview

1.1 Definition and presentation

The term "bodywork" refers to the outer part of a motor vehicle whatever it may be such as a car, motorcycle, or truck. Since the bodywork is built on top of the chassis it is also called the fairing. The main function of the bodywork is to isolate the outside environment from the inside of the car so that it can protect certain parts from the outside air and temperature. Examples of bodywork are, for example, the window, windshield, and rear window.

The size of the global auto body repair market was $185.98 billion in 2020. It is projected to have a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.1 % from 2021 to 2028. The market during the pandemic period suffered large losses due to declining car sales and forced closures of production plants.

In Italy, the auto body and auto parts market has performed positively since 2014. However, this growth was halted by the pandemic. As for the car parts market in the year 2021, there was a double-digit increase of 42.2 % over the previous year. According to data released by UNRAE (Unione Nazionale Rappresentati Autoveicoli Esteri), the most popular spare parts for Italians are those of the Fiat Panda car, the market leader with an average of more than 138,000 units sold per year. After the Fiat Panda, the best-selling cars and consequently those with high demand for body parts are the Lancia Ypsilon, Renault Clio, and Citroen C3.
