1.1 Definition und Umfang der Studie

Die ersten Vinyl-Schallplatten wurden 1948 veröffentlicht. Mit dem Aufkommen der CD lange beiseite geschoben, ist der Vinylmarkt nun wieder auf dem Vormarsch. Tatsächlich sind laut einer Studie des SNEP (Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique) die Verkäufe von Vinyl-Schallplatten im Jahr 2018 weltweit um 6 % im Vergleich zu 2017 gestiegen. In Frankreich hat der Markt in den letzten fünf Jahren eine 5-fache Umsatzsteigerung erfahren

Auch bekannt als Mikrorillenplatte, "Galette" oder schwarze Schallplatte, ist sie ein Tonaufzeichnungsmedium. Es besteht aus zwei gravierten Seiten. Jede Seite hat eine mikroskopisch kleine "Spiral"-Rille, die an der Außenseite beginnt und in der Mitte der Schallplatte endet. Die Schallplatte ist in der Regel schwarz, es gibt aber auch farbige (grün, rot, weiß, blau, ...) oder transparente Platten. Manche haben sogar auf einer oder beiden Seiten ein Bild eingearbeitet: das sind Picture-Discs. Es ist für die Wiedergabe auf einem Plattenspieler oder einem Elektrophon vorgesehen.

Eine weitere Studie des SNEP zeigt, dass zwei Drittel der LP- und 45 rpm-Käufer unter 50 Jahre alt sind. Insgesamt wird fast die Hälfte der Vinyl-Verkäufe von Menschen unter 30 Jahren generiert. Damit zieht der Vinylmarkt zunehmend ein neues Publikum an, das die erste Vinylwelle nicht miterlebt hat: die Millenials.

Mehr als ein Modeeffekt gewinnt das Vinyl-Revival an Schwung, wie die Vervielfachung von Messen, Tauschblogs und Sammlerforen in Frankreich zeigt. Der Markt für Vinyl-Schallplatten ermöglicht es den physischen Musikvertrieben nun, mit den großen Online-Streaming-Plattformen zu konkurrieren

Diese Studie konzentriert sich hauptsächlich auf den Markt für 33- und 45-U/min-Schallplatten.
