They offer accommodation for short and longer stays, with families usually receiving packages that include accommodation, meals and leisure activities. Many vacation villages also offer special activities for children, including playgrounds, swimming pools, game rooms and more. Vacation villages are a great choice for families looking for an affordable yet fun vacation.

The vacation home and vacation rental market in Germany represents a popular accommodation type within the German hospitality industry. In 2021, a total of 42.6 million commercial overnight stays were made in vacation homes or apartments. In addition to the commercially recorded overnight stays, there are also a large number of overnight stays in the private vacation home market.

The hospitality market in Germany has seen a decline in revenue in 2021 compared to 2019. In particular, restaurants, hotels and caterers are affected by this decline. Compared to 2019, restaurants, hotels and caterers have experienced a price-adjusted decline in sales of 12%, 9% and 13%, respectively. This decline can be attributed to the Covid 19 pandemic, which has caused a slump in demand for lodging and restaurant services. This decline also had an impact on employment numbers in the industry. For example, at the end of 2021, the foodservice and hospitality industry had approximately 16% fewer employees

In February 2023, the hospitality market in Germany recorded a decline in sales compared to January 2023. Restaurants, hotels and caterers were affected by a price-adjusted decline in sales of 2.7% and a nominal decline in sales of 2.3%. However, compared to February 2019, real calendar- and seasonally-adjusted hospitality sales were 12.8% higher in February 2023.

The Covid 19 pandemic has had a massive impact on the tourism market worldwide. In 2021, there were a total of approximately 920 million international tourist arrivals, a 37% decrease from the previous year. The restrictions and travel limitations caused by the pandemic have contributed to this dramatic decline.
