1.1 Definition and scope of the study
A vegetated roof, also known as a green roof, green roof, green roof or Horizontal Vegetated Complex Wall (PCVH), is defined as a roof provided with vegetation following the installation of a set of materials and plants composing a microflora with a water drainage system. The installation of a vegetated roof must be compatible with the existing roof structure (slab...) and existing materials (concrete, wood...).
The technique developed in architecture in the 1970s mainly in the Scandinavian countries, Germany, Switzerland and more recently in France and Belgium in the 1990s and 2000s. West Germany pioneered modern green roofs as early as the 1960s.
