An insulin pump is a medical device that allows a patient with this type of need to have continuous (24-hour) infusions of insulin into the subcutaneous tissue.  This type of treatment is a viable alternative to multi-injection treatment and provides better glycemic control. Mimicking the operation of a normal pancreas, it is an artificial device that delivers insulin at a variable rate to a diabetic person who requires insulin on a permanent basis.  The global insulin market is growing, dominated by some very powerful labs including insulin pens and oral drugs.  The insulin pump market segment is growing and is expected to remain so for the next few years, driven by various technological innovations proposed by traditional or emerging players.
