Editions Albert René was founded in 1979 by Albert Uderzo, author of the Asterix comics, after he left Editions Dargaud.

It publishes only Asterix comics.

In 2011, Hachette Livre became the sole owner of the Albert René publishing house, in which Sylvie Uderzo (daughter of Asterix author Albert Uderzo) still held a 40% stake. In December 2008, Hachette had already acquired the shares of Albert Uderzo and Anne Goscinny (daughter of Asterix artist René Goscinny), who held 40% and 20% respectively.
