A cooperative bringing together 120 salt workers from Guérande in order to allow the exploitation of the salt marshes in this area, which were abandoned in the 1970s, the Guérandais is part of an affirmed quality approach, promoting craftsmanship and traceability.

Member of the association for the promotion of artisanal salt, the cooperative has the Red Label and the Protected Geographical Indication, which gives it a marketing and commercial advantage thanks to this guarantee of quality.

Le Guérandais offers products in all ranges (see Product) and offers customers initiations to develop their culinary knowledge of salt.

Organic: Atlantic salt producers worried 02/08/2023

  • The Association française des producteurs de sel marin de l'Atlantique (AFPS) groups together 600 salt producers.
  • Salt is produced by mining, industrial production, heating evaporation techniques, or by evaporation in eyelets, and harvested by hand.
  • The rejected draft delegated act aimed to define production standards for organic salt, notably excluding salt extracted by explosives and dissolution-recrystallization processes.
  • Total salt production in France is estimated at between 5 and 6 million tonnes.
  • Around 10% of total salt production, i.e. between 500,000 and 600,000 tonnes, is used for human consumption.
  • Les Coopérateurs de l'Atlantique produce 25,000 tonnes of salt, or around 0.5% of total salt production in France.
