Paris Saint-Germain FC, or PSG for short, was formed in 1970 from the merger of Stade Saint-Germanois and Paris Football Club. PSG is the club with the longest unbroken history in Ligue 1, having played in the 1st division since 1974.

In 2006, PSG was sold to the American investment fund Colony Capital, then in 2011 to the Qatari fund Qatar Investment Authority. Nasser Al-Khelaïfi became Chairman and CEO of the club in 2011.

The arrival of the Qatari fund gave the club new financial resources, enabling it to recruit international soccer stars
