EMFI's history dates back to 1957, when Emile MENDLER set up a glue trading and manufacturing business within his company marketing materials for the footwear industry. The name EMFI was registered in 1965.
In 1987/1988, EMFI took part in the creation of SAPO, a company specializing in the production of polyurethane sealants, and contributed to the development of the flooring adhesive production site in Bordeaux.
In 1990, EMFI seized the opportunity offered by the opening up of Eastern European markets and set up a sales office in Budapest, followed by the opening of other offices in various cities.
In 1999, EMFI opened a new production site in Niedermodern, Alsace. In 2000, an office was opened in Chicago.
In 2004, EMFI refocused its core business on the manufacture of polyurethane and hybrid polymer adhesives for the industrial and construction markets.
In 2006, EMFI created EMFI Poland and in 2009, the 3M Group acquired EMFI.
Today, EMFI's high-performance adhesives and sealants are indispensable in building construction and infrastructure, as well as in sectors such as automotive, road and rail transport, and marine. By complementing 3M's range of industrial adhesive products, they enable us to penetrate the fast-growing market for polyurethane-based structural adhesives and sealants.
