El Dorado Rum is a brand of rum produced by Demerara Distillers in Guyana.
The distiller claims that the oak flavors of the barrels and the complexity of the interaction between wood and alcohol are enhanced by Guyana's tropical climate. The aging process in Guyana is said to be greatly enhanced by the high humidity and constant temperature.
This is why an 8-year-old rum, for example, is said to have the same maturity as a 16-year-old spirit produced in colder climates.
