A coffee machine is a machine that makes a drink from roasted coffee beans. The filter coffee maker and the percolator are two types of coffee machines. The percolator works on the principle of percolation. It is used in public places where hot beverages are served, such as pubs, restaurants or companies. It is also used by individuals, at home, for breakfast for example. There are different types of coffee machines:

  • The filter coffee maker
  • The pod coffee maker
  • The coffee maker with piston
  • The pressure coffee maker or the Italian coffee maker -
  • The espresso machine which can take the form of a percolator (which is filled with ground coffee according to the desired dosage), a machine with pods, or a machine with integrated grinder.

These coffee machines are becoming more and more efficient, with automatic shut-off systems, keep-warm systems, aroma selection systems, coffee filtration systems, etc.worldwide coffee consumption is estimated at nearly 2 billion cups per day. the small appliances sector has seen its market share grow by 4.7% in 2019, with more than 54.2 million appliances sold.

The main players in the French market are: the Swiss giant Selecta, the American Mars Drinks through Flavia, the Necta subsidiary of the American giant N&W, Lavazza, Tassimo or Nespresso. A particularly buoyant segment in this sector is the breakfast segment, which grew by 8.3%. More specifically, in the coffee machine sector, it is those with a bean grinder that have undergone a meteoric growth, of 70% compared to the previous year.

The coffee machine market does not include coffee vending machines, which are included in the beverage vending market.
