USA to invest at least 1 billion euros to recycle plastics in France 12/10/2023
- The Eastman Group is planning to build a chemical plastics recycling plant in Port-Jérôme, Seine-Maritime.
- The project aims to increase recycling capacity from 100,000 to 200,000 tonnes per year, in two phases of 100,000 tonnes each, starting in 2026.
- The company plans to recycle only PET from packaging and textiles.
- Every year, 7.2 million tonnes of polyester waste are recorded in Europe, of which only 2.4 million tonnes enter recyclable channels, and 21% of this polyester waste is recycled.
- The company has secured around 70% of the required flows through long-term contracts, and is negotiating a further 10%.
- The remaining 20% will be purchased on the market.
- Supplies will come from Germany, Spain, Italy and France.
