Summary

The global karting market, involving the sport where small, single-seater four-wheeled vehicles called karts are raced on tracks, has been projected to grow from a value of $229.25 million in 2021 to $310.09 million by 2028, at a CAGR of 4.41 percent. Originating from an invention in 1956 by Kurtis Kraft, karting has evolved into both a leisure activity and a competitive sport regulated internationally by the FIA Karting. Italy, a pivotal nation in the karting industry, boasts numerous tracks and a rich tradition of producing world-class competitive teams and manufacturers like OTK group, C.R.G., and Parolin Racing Kart, with OTK leading the market with a turnover of 20.5 million euros in 2020. The sport faces challenges and opportunities in the form of ecological transitions, with a trend towards electric karts which require larger fleets to compensate for battery life, indicating a shift in supply dynamics. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the sport in 2020 leading to a loss of spectators due to necessary health restrictions, but numbers recovered to 18,000 live spectators by 2021, matching pre-pandemic levels. Raw material costs for manufacturing karts have also risen with aluminum and steel increasing by 65% and 54%, respectively, due to the pandemic's economic effects..Analyzing the Karting Market Trends in Italy The karting market in Italy has showcased considerable growth and remains a prominent player in the motor sports landscape. Karting in Italy is not only a pastime but also an entry point into the competitive motor racing world. With roots dating back to the late 1950s, Italy has developed a robust infrastructure for the sport, evident from the numerous tracks across the country, particularly in regions like Sicily and Lombardy. In recent years, the demand for karting has seen variations, with a peak during summer months and a significant decline during the winter. Interest in the sport seems to wane during colder periods, and this was strikingly evident when the pandemic struck in 2020, leading to a sharp fall in karting activities. However, participation levels bounced back as restrictions eased, with spectator counts reaching between 15 and 20 million in 2021, which is on par with pre-pandemic levels. Competitive karting in Italy requires a license from the nation's federation, and the ACI Karting Championship stands as one of the highlights of the Italian karting scene. With categories catering to a wide range of age groups, from as young as six years old up to 35 and above, the championship garners a significant amount of attention. In fact, more than 1,350 participants were verified across five rounds held in 2022, marking the highest number since the turn of the century. Karting's market structure in Italy is characterized by a plethora of independent circuits and schools, promoting the sport at grassroots levels. Among the major players, the OTK Kart Group leads with a turnover of around 20.5 million euros, followed by companies like C.R.G. and Parolin Racing Kart. These organizations not only manufacture karts but also host competitive racing teams, contributing to both the supply and competitive aspects of the sport. An emerging trend in the Italian karting market is the shift toward sustainability, with a growing interest in electric karts. The electric kart segment demands a larger fleet due to battery recharging times but offers numerous advantages like instant torque, reduced maintenance, zero pollution, and lower operating costs. OTL, a pioneer in electric kart innovation, competes with groups like SODIKART, CRG, and PAROLIN in this burgeoning niche. Supply trends in the Italian market also reflect a commitment to environmental stewardship, evident in the burgeoning tire recycling initiatives, which aim to recover and repurpose materials from end-of-life tires..### Pioneers and Innovators: Leading Forces in the Italian Karting Market The Italian karting industry is a bustling arena shaped by a combination of heritage, innovation, and competitive spirit. Summary and extracts

1 Market Overview

1.1 Definition and presentation

Karting is a motor sport practiced on a race track using a kart, which is a small single-seater car with four wheels, no body, gearbox or suspension. Kurtis Kraft, an American automotive technician, developed the kart in 1956 when he welded together frame tubes on which he had installed the engine of an old lawnmower, never expecting the fame that would follow.

Karting takes two main forms: leisure or competition. The first of these two forms is for people who occasionally rent karts for racing sessions. On the other hand, competitive karting is a real sport that requires a license from the federation of the nation in which it is raced; internationally, the sport of karting is regulated by the FIA Karting based in Paris. Many great Formula 1 champions started in karting and then became professionals by climbing the various categories. There are also two types of circuits, namely indoor and outdoor.

From 2021 to 2030, the world karting market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.9 percent, from USD104.8 million in 2020 to USD154.3 million in 2030.

Landed in Italy in 1957, Karting is regulated by ACI CSAI. Italy can in some ways be considered the home of karting both in terms of traditions and podiums achieved: there are numerous tracks throughout the country where enthusiasts can test their skills. The regions with the most karting tracks are Emilia-Romagna and Sicily. The Italian karting championship has a large audience, with an estimated 6.5 million spectators in 2021; it makes headlines in major newspapers such as "La Gazzetta dello Sport," "Il Corriere dello Sport" and "l'Automobile" magazine. it is a sport that also creates engagement among physical audiences, with more than 18,000 live viewers throughout the 2019 championship. The market is very fragmented with independent test venues and some franchises, especially in the Indoor Karting segment with K1Speed for example (a leading company in the karting world).Major sponsors in the industry include Arai Helmet, OMP Racing, and the Petronas Group.

New trends have been observed in the practice of the sport, especially in the ecological transition with the development of electric karts and the implementation of collection systems for tire recovery and recycling.
