In recent years, there has been an upward trend in online shopping. In France, for example, purchases made on the Internet reached 90 billion euros in 2018 (Source: Fevad).

We define online payment as an exchange of money that is made through a computer system to purchase a product available on a website.

E-commerce is driven by the expansion of the offer in Europe and the increase in the number of sites as well as by the development of marketplaces. Faced with this rise in online purchases, there are more and more players in online payments and they must innovate and win the trust of customers to gain market share.

European and international competition is intense with players such as Paypal and VISA that are firmly established VISA offers a new system of rechargeable smart cards allowing online payment for blocked amounts

The giants like Google and Apple also offer online payment solutions ( Google Pay and Apple Pay ) while fintechs sometimes supported by the major French banks, as is the case with Paylib propose alternative solutions. Among the start-ups in the Sector Lydia posted record growth and was already growing at a faster rate than before of one million users in 2018 .


One of the keys to success for these online payment companies will be to gain the confidence of individuals . To this end, the processes of its European online payment players will have to encourage secure exchange in transactions
