The market for news covers the production, harvesting and distribution of fresh vegetables and fruit. The fresh marketer markets fruit and vegetables from wholesalers or local producers.

Primeurs are the third largest fruit and vegetable distribution channel in France and ensure a minimal share of the market turnover, far behind the food superstores. Consumption in out-of-home catering and self-consumption by producers complete the sources of consumption of fruit and vegetables in France.

On average, French households buy around 85 kg of fresh fruit and the same amount of fresh vegetables each year, for a budget of 350 euros per household. French households, concerned about the quality of food products, buy more fruit and vegetables from the supermarket chain, which increases the market share of the circuit

Although highly fragmented and highly competitive, the fresh produce market remains dominated in its distribution segment by a handful of wholesalers, with almost half of the fresh fruit and vegetables distributed in France by wholesalers on and off the market

The futures market remains intrinsically subject to the vagaries of the weather and climate, which explains the occasional surge in prices, not to mention the international situation (Russian embargo), the prices of raw materials and fuel, etc. The market is also subject to the impact of the global economic crisis (Russian embargo).
