O mercado de dermocosméticos é um subsegmento do mercado de beleza e saúde. Por um lado, a dermatologia é um ramo da medicina que se concentra em problemas de saúde da pele, por outro lado, os cosméticos incluem qualquer substância usada para limpar, hidratar ou alterar a pele, cabelo, unhas ou dentes de uma pessoa.

Dermocosméticos, portanto, corresponde a todos os produtos de beleza que podem ser aplicados à pele ou cabelo, que respondem a problemas específicos do cliente (pele seca...), de forma mais ou menos eficaz.

O conceito nasceu nos laboratórios da empresa Pierre Fabre e foi adotado pelos principais fabricantes de cosméticos que hoje ainda são em sua maioria franceses. Esta conseguiu ficar um passo à frente graças à aquisição de muitas marcas. A L'Oréal controla, por exemplo, Vichy e La Roche-Posay, Pierre Fabre é dono das marcas Avène e Laboratoires Ducray, entre outras.

Existem no mercado dois segmentos, o dos  dermocosméticos “de massa", e o dos dermocosméticos "premium que também será discutido.

No entanto, o setor enfrenta alguns desafios, que devem colocar a prova a eficácia dos seus produtos em termos de beleza e saúde, ao mesmo tempo que se adapta à transição para a era digital.
