1.1 Définition et périmètre d'étude

Les éoliennes sont apparues il y a plusieurs siècles comme des outils permettant de drainer ou irriguer des zones humides ou sèches. Ce n’est que dans les années 1950 qu’apparaissent les premières éoliennes productrices d’électricité. À l’aide de pales, d’un rotor, d’une nacelle et d’un mât, le vent est converti en électricité. Une éolienne permet d’alimenter en moyenne 1 150 ménages selon Suisse Éole.

Une turbine éolienne correspond à la structure visible de l’éolienne, à l’exception du mât. Il s’agit pour les fabricants de concevoir des pales permettant de convertir un maximum d’énergie éolienne en électricité. Le rôle des fabricants ne s’arrête pas à la conception, puisqu’ils réalisent, installent et démontent les éoliennes qu’ils conçoivent.

Alors que les énergies renouvelables deviennent un véritable enjeu politique et économique, l’éolien se présente comme une alternative potentielle aux ressources fossiles. Les installations se multiplient sur le territoire, d’autant que certains objectifs ont été fixés pour 2023 et 2028 via les programmations pluriannuelles de l’énergie

Pour autant, les défis restent nombreux pour le secteur. La rentabilité des turbiniers reste très faible et l’apparition de nouvelles tendances, comme les smart grids, pourrait encourager l’apparition de nouveaux acteurs sur un secteur fortement concentré.
