Les pâtes sont un produit alimentaire composé de farine, de semoule de blé dur, de sel, d'eau et parfois d'autres céréales et d'œufs. Le marché des pâtes est structuré autour de la production et de la commercialisation de pâtes sèches et de pâtes fraîches.

Au cours des 20 dernières années, la production mondiale de pâtes alimentaires a augmenté de 63 %. On s'attend à ce que le segment des pâtes sèches continue de croître à un taux de 2,3 % jusqu'en 2025, tandis que les pâtes fraîches continueront de croître à un taux de 1,3 % au cours de la même période.

Les Italiens ont la plus forte consommation de pâtes par habitant, avec 23,5 kilogrammes par an, suivis par la Tunisie, avec 17 kilogrammes, et le Venezuela, avec 12 kilogrammes. En outre, l'Italie est également le principal pays producteur de pâtes. En fait, on estime que les exportations de pâtes fabriquées en Italie ont augmenté, couvrant 56 % de la production mondiale.
