1.1 Définition et périmètre d'étude

Un physiothérapeute est défini comme un professionnel de la santé qui a obtenu un diplôme en physiothérapie et possède donc une connaissance détaillée du fonctionnement du corps, en particulier des parties musculaires, squelettiques et neurologiques. En général, on s'adresse à un physiothérapeute pour prévenir et traiter tout problème moteur. Les principaux problèmes que les physiothérapeutes résolvent sont les suivants : douleurs dorsales, hernies discales, contusions, entorses et luxations, défauts de posture, traumatismes musculaires et rééducation post-chirurgicale. 

En ce qui concerne le marché mondial, il est estimé qu’il atteindra 165,73 milliards de dollars d'ici 2023, avec un TCAC de 5,34 %. Cette forte croissance est due au fait que la durée de vie moyenne s'allonge et que, par conséquent, de plus en plus de personnes âgées ont besoin de soins de physiatrie, mais aussi au fait que nous menons une vie de plus en plus sédentaire qui nuit de plus en plus à notre posture.

En Italie, comme l'indique l'"Associazione Italina Fisioterapisti" (Association italienne des physiothérapeutes), on compte 64 866 professionnels actifs, soit un ratio de 97 pour 100 000 habitants. Dans le pays, on estime à 8,5 millions le nombre de personnes souffrant de problèmes moteurs, dont 3,7 millions sont graves, qui ont recours à un physiothérapeute pour résoudre leurs problèmes. Les données montrent que près de 16% des personnes qui ont recours à des physiothérapeutes sont âgées de plus de 75 ans. En ce qui concerne la répartition géographique, le Nord-Est de l'Italie est la zone où les rendez-vous sont les plus nombreux, tandis que le sud et les îles sont les zones où les visites sont les moins nombreuses.

La tendance du marché est d'offrir de plus en plus ce service à domicile plutôt qu'en clinique. Cela s'explique par le fait que, comme nous l'avons mentionné, la population italienne vieillit et préfère donc éviter de se déplacer, ce qui est difficile pour les personnes âgées, pour ce type de service qui est effectué de manière constante et fréquente.
