Lo yogurt è un prodotto lattiero coagulato ottenuto dopo la fermentazione del latte da parte di batteri. Gli operatori del mercato lattiero-caseario mondiale sono generalmente presenti anche sul mercato dello yogurt.

La concorrenza è forte in questo settore perché gruppi importanti come Danone e Nestlé devono affrontare nuovi attori che desiderano intraprendere nuove tendenze basate sul desiderio di mangiare più sano in Belgio.

Gli attori sono alla ricerca di una crescita organica attraverso l'innovazione e la moltiplicazione dei prodotti offerti.

Il mercato dei prodotti biologici continua a crescere fortemente, a beneficio del sotto-segmento yogurt biologico. È improbabile che questo appello diminuisca in futuro.

Secondo i dati analizzati da GfK Belgio (studio sul comportamento di acquisto di 5.000 famiglie belghe per conto del VLAM). Spesa annua delle famiglie belghe per i prodotti lattiero-caseari in media 271 euro per abitante, ossia un mercato globale di circa 3,08 miliardi di euro nello stesso anno.

Se guardiamo la ripartizione di questo totale, vediamo che il formaggio è la principale voce di spesa con 110 euro spesi nel 2017, seguito dallo yogurt ( 29 euro ) poi il latte (28 euro)

Si può quindi stimare che il mercato complessivo dello yogurt in Belgio si aggira intorno ai seguenti valori 329 milioni di euro nel 2017 .

Tra i segmenti in crescita, inoltre, possiamo citare gli yogurt da bere, che hanno visto aumentare il loro fatturato di 5,5% nel 2016 anche se il consumo pro capite è solo 0,9 litri all'anno (rispetto ad una media di 45,7 litri di latte all'anno nel 2016).
