Questa struttura medica offre camere individuali o collettive e offre anche assistenza per la vita quotidiana, nonché assistenza medica personalizzata, catering, servizi di lavanderia, intrattenimento, ecc.

In Portogallo, troviamo i termini di "Lar para idososos" (casa di riposo per anziani), che sono strutture residenziali, che garantiscono e forniscono cibo, assistenza sanitaria, igiene e comfort.
