Il mercato della parafarmacia si riferisce a tutte le vendite di prodotti per la cura e l'igiene (per adulti e neonati), ma anche di bellezza, dietetica e integratori alimentari, che non richiedono prescrizione medica. È inoltre necessario includere piccoli elettrodomestici come le raspe o gli spazzolini da denti elettrici.

Il mercato delle parafarmacie si è notevolmente evoluto dalla sua nascita negli anni '80 e il consumo di prodotti parafarmaceutici è diventato più democratico aprendosi a tutte le modalità di distribuzione: farmacie, marchi specializzati, parafarmacia e vendite online.

Questa evoluzione è stata accompagnata da un'estensione dell'offerta verso nuovi territori della bellezza e della cura personale. Come il mercato degli integratori alimentari, anche il mercato della parafarmacia è in rapida crescita in Francia.
