1.1 Definizione e portata dello studio

Situato al crocevia di questioni pubbliche e private, il mercato del tabacco è un mercato molto specifico, altamente regolamentato e monitorato, ma che tuttavia interessa tutti i segmenti della popolazione mondiale e francese

Lo studio riguarderà la produzione, la distribuzione e la vendita di tabacco e dei suoi derivati, come sigarette, sigari, sigari, sigaretti, tabacco da arrotolare, tabacco da masticare e tabacco da fiuto. Si parlerà anche delle nuove forme di consumo che sono apparse sul mercato, come la sigaretta elettronica.

Mentre in Francia c'erano 16 milioni di fumatori, il 70% dei quali dopo il 2010, ora sono solo 13 milioni nel 2018 . Il governo ha inoltre fissato un nuovo obiettivo di riduzione del fumo in Francia: ridurre i fumatori di età compresa tra i 15 e i 75 anni alla fine del quinquennio di Macron dal 26,9% a meno del 22%. Il mercato del tabacco è quindi nel mercato del decrescere in Francia, in primo luogo influenzato dall'aumento dei prezzi delle sigarette, che ha portato ad un calo delle vendite di sigarette negli ultimi 20 anni. Il mercato è in difficoltà anche a causa della crescita delle vendite di toppe mediche e sigarette elettroniche .

Il mercato del tabacco è dominato da alcuni leader come Philip Morris International (che possiede i marchi Malboro e Philip Morris), Seita (che possiede Fortuna, Gauloises, Gitanes), Altadis Imperial Tobacco, Japan Tobacco International e British American Tobacco. Ci sono anche una quarantina di distributori di tabacco in Francia, il principale dei quali è Logista France. Infine, la vendita al dettaglio dei prodotti del tabacco è disciplinata dall'amministrazione doganale.
