Turismo in bicicletta, o cicloturismo, è un modo per scoprire un territorio o una regione in bicicletta, per visitare le sue principali attrazioni turistiche.
Il turismo ciclistico rappresenta un mercato importante, la maggior parte del quale è legato all'alloggio e alla ristorazione, con più di 100 milioni di pernottamenti registrato in Francia nel 2019. La Francia è il seconda destinazione più grande in Europa per il turismo in bicicletta, subito dopo la Germania. Turisti stranieri rappresentati 20% del numero totale di ciclisti in Francia nel 2019, le nazionalità più rappresentate per i ciclisti sono Germania e Regno Unito
Ci sono 7 diverse categorie di stabilimenti/associazioni che compongono l'intera industria del cicloturismo:
- Strutture ricettive
- Ristoranti
- Attrazioni turistiche
- Uffici turistici
- Aziende di noleggio di biciclette
- Aziende di riparazione di biciclette
- Le piste ciclabili
Tutti questi stabilimenti, ad eccezione delle piste ciclabili, sono per la maggior parte rappresentati dalla certificazione "France Vélo Tourisme" Bici a casa ". A partire dal 2020, ci saranno più di 5.000 stabilimenti con questa certificazione in Francia. Ci sono anche altri stabilimenti (che non hanno la certificazione "Accueil Vélo") che contribuiscono anche all'industria del cicloturismo in Francia.
Per quanto riguarda le piste ciclabili, la Francia si divide in 3 tipi:
- Greenways
- Véloroutes (Piste ciclabili regionali)
- EuroVelo (Rete ciclistica europea)
Le greenway sono le più diffuse nel paese, mentre ci sono solo 10 percorsi EuroVelo in Francia nel 2020. Tuttavia, i percorsi EuroVelo sono i più popolari tra i cicloturisti ed è qui che i turisti spendono più soldi. La rotta della costa atlantica ( Ciclismo in Francia) è il più popolare nel paese, con ricadute economiche di più di 100 milioni di euro nel 2018 .
Gli attori del turismo ciclistico puntano sulla diversificazione, approfittando delle partnership locali con uffici turistici, hotel e ristoranti per offrire ai turisti un'esperienza turistica più ricca possibile.
Non ci sono barriere tecnologiche o legislative per questo mercato, che richiede semplicemente abilità sportive, conoscenza delle regole del ciclismo e una particolare attrazione per il ciclismo.
