1.1 Definizione e ambito di studio

Il pneumatico (segmento dei pneumatici) è prodotto principalmente in gomma e gonfiato con aria o azoto. Fornisce principalmente la presa e l'assorbimento degli urti circondando il cerchio metallico di un veicolo. I pneumatici sono caratterizzati da un particolare disegno del battistrada (simmetrico, asimmetrico, direzionale) e da un tipo di utilizzo specifico (a seconda del tipo di veicolo, adatto a condizioni di neve, veicoli da corsa, ecc.)

Occorre inoltre distinguere tra la vendita di pneumatici montati direttamente su una vettura di nuova immatricolazione ("primo equipaggiamento") e le cosiddette vendite di sostituzione di pneumatici nuovi o ricostruiti. Si distingue anche tra pneumatici per berline, SUV e 4x4, furgoni, camion e altri veicoli.

Il mercato francese ha risentito del calo delle vendite di fine 2018. Tuttavia, alcuni segmenti di mercato rimangono dinamici, come i pneumatici per fuoristrada e per autocarri, che resistono alla tendenza al ribasso del settore. Deve inoltre far fronte alla concorrenza internazionale proveniente dalla Germania e dalla Cina in particolare.

Il mercato può contare sui suoi player internazionali e soprattutto sullo sviluppo delle vendite online dei "pure player", anche se in parte indeboliscono l'attività dei rivenditori specializzati (nei punti vendita fisici) che ogni anno perdono quote di mercato.

Il boom delle vendite online sta contribuendo alla tendenza al ribasso dei prezzi favorevoli al consumatore, riducendo i margini per produttori e distributori. Il calo dei prezzi incoraggia i principali operatori del settore a proporre offerte sempre più differenziate per giustificare livelli di prezzo più elevati e a rinnovare costantemente le loro gamme e le innovazioni offerte (ad esempio la tecnologia airless). I segmenti "premium" e "top di gamma" dell'offerta vanno quindi bene, registrando cifre di vendita in crescita.

L'epidemia di Covid-19 ha avuto un forte impatto sul segmento dei pneumatici di primo equipaggiamento, ma le vendite di ricambi dovrebbero rimanere stabili e consentire ai produttori di resistere a questo shock esterno.
