Essere un parrucchiere consiste nel fornire vari trattamenti igienici ed estetici per la cura dei capelli in un salone di bellezza o direttamente a casa del cliente. Si può trattare di un taglio, di una colorazione o di una permanente... I saloni hanno sviluppato varie offerte aggiuntive, tra cui la vendita di prodotti e accessori di bellezza .

Diversi miliardi di euro vengono spesi ogni anno dai francesi, e soprattutto dalle donne francesi, in saloni di parrucchieri. Tuttavia, i margini del settore si sono indeboliti negli ultimi anni, con la crescente concorrenza portata dai parrucchieri a domicilio i quali offrono tagli di capelli a prezzi in media più bassi .

Anche la formazione dei nuovi parrucchieri è in calo, con una forte diminuzione nel numero di apprendisti . Anche il numero di aperture e di acquisizioni è rallentato.

Di conseguenza, i saloni di parrucchiere stanno cercando una nuove vie di sviluppo con l'apertura di barber shops e con un adattamento sempre più rapido ai fenomeni della moda .
