1.1 INTRODUCCIÓN

El porcelana es una cerámica fina y translúcida producida a partir de caolín por cocción a más de 1200°C. El uso primario y mayoritario de la porcelana es el relacionado con artes de la mesa . Existen dos tipos principales de porcelana: porcelana arduamente y porcelana delicada . Las técnicas avanzadas de fabricación de porcelana llegaron tarde a Francia (19 el siglo), mientras que ya estaban presentes en China en 17 el siglo. Sin embargo, la porcelana de Limoges es reconocida por su calidad e incluso está protegida por una "indicación geográfica".

Desde 2010, el número de empleados en el sector de la porcelana en Francia ha ido disminuyendo constantemente, lo que refleja procedimientos de fabricación cada vez más deslocalizado fuera de Francia. El volumen de negocios generado por el mercado de la porcelana es puesto a prueba por el crecimiento del vajilla cerámica en China, que está sustituyendo gradualmente a la porcelana tradicional

Para resistir la crisis, los actores del mercado de la porcelana cuentan con el desarrollo de las exportaciones, que ya representan cerca del 50% de la facturación del sector. El mercado francés de la porcelana se enfrenta a la intensificación de la competencia internacional especialmente en Asia, que se ilustra regularmente con el uso de la falsificación. Hay que tener en cuenta que para protegerse de esto, la ciudad de Limoges ha iniciado iniciativas de reconocimiento de marca a nivel nacional y europeo.
