El el helado es un alimento hecho de leche, azúcar, frutas y sabores diversos mientras que un el sorbete consiste únicamente en jarabe de azúcar y pulpa de fruta o aromas . Hay diferentes tipos de helados disponibles en las tiendas: conos y palitos (a veces vendidos individualmente), especialidades de helados para compartir (troncos y tartas de helado) o cajas de fruta y frascos y sorbetes para helados vendidos en GSA (Large Food Surfaces).

En términos de volumen, la consumo doméstico está dominado por el especialidades individuales (conos, varillas, etc.) y por los sorbetes y helados a granel (especialmente las cubas frutales), siendo el resto especialidades colectivas de temporada (troncos de Navidad, etc.).
