En France, les activités liées à la consommation d'eau aromatisée est un sous-segment du marché de l'eau qui regroupent à la fois les eaux plates (eaux de source, eaux minérales, et eaux rendues potables par traitement)et les eaux gazéifiées qui ont un arôme synthétique ou naturel pouvant provenir de l'infusion d'un fruit, d'une plante...

Le marché mondial connaît une croissance soutenue, portée par l'intérêt croissant des consommateurs à la santé et à la naturalité ; ainsi que par les innovations produits issus de collaboration interentreprises. Les ventes devraient croître avec un TCAC de 8,3% entre 2021et 2026. 

Les marchés européens, comme la France, sont plus matures et connaissent donc une croissance plus faible et ont été frappés par la pandémie.

À l'image du marché mondial, le marché français de l'eau aromatisée est concentré autour de leaders historiques et d'envergure internationale tels que Danone Eaux France, Nestlé Waters France et Neptune (filiale du groupe Alma) dont la marque Cristaline est leader du marché et l'essor des boissons aromatisées en remplacement des sodas a permis à ces acteurs de se réinventer. 

Les acteurs doivent faire face à un frein majeur : l'argument écologique car sans recyclage, l'eau embouteillée a une empreinte considérable sur l'environnement du fait de son contenant plastique. Les acteurs du marché doivent ainsi faire face à la concurrence accrue du fait maison.

De nombreuses innovations sont donc développées pour réduire l'empreinte carbone des bouteilles d'eau, et favoriser leur essor. Les efforts de marketing pour vanter les qualités nutritionnelles de ces produits sont de plus en plus importants.
