The Organic Fruits and Vegetables Market | France

The organic fruit and vegetable market has been growing steadily for 10 years. In 2016, the organic market in France reached 7.147 billion euros, 278% increase compared to 2007. There are, for example, social gardens (Réseau Cocagne), the distribution of baskets by a retail chain (La Vie Claire), or a wholesaler (the Campanier). Retailers have clearly understood this phenomenon and the acquisition of Naturalia by Monoprix in 2008 demonstrates this. To meet this demand, distributors resort to importation. However, this phenomenon has decreased since the year 2016 since 71% of organic fruits and vegetables consumed in France come from the country itself. French agriculture is experiencing an important evolution and represents nearly 12% of the Useful Agricultural Area of ​​the European Union. France is in 3rd place alongside Spain and Italy. Despite the crisis, the French were more numerous in 2008 to consume organic products and wished to maintain their consumption, even increase in the following years, according to the barometer of the Agency Bio. In 2016, 89% of French people consumed organic products, nearly 69% consumed at least once a month, and 15% every day. The connotation "bobo" of the organic buyer is now a cliché.
