Lemonade is a cold drink, either carbonated or not, made up of lemon juice, water and sugar.
The non-alcoholic beverages market amounted to 45 billion euros in 2016 but has been slowing since 2012, with a 2.4% decline in value in 2016. This fall in sales and turnover is explained by the soda tax introduced in 2012. In this market, lemonade accounts for 9% of sales.
The lemonade market is characterised by a large number of companies and a high degree of competition: local brands, multinationals and retail brands.
Investment in some new facilities shows the need of the R&D in the lemonade sector, in order to differentiate itself in a highly competitive market.
The soft drinks sector should be subject to higher taxation in the coming years, in order to finance the fight against obesity. As a sugary drink, lemonade will not escape this toughening regulation.
