Engie (formerly GDF Suez) is a French company listed on the stock exchange. It was founded in 2008 by the merger of Gaz de France and Suez, where the latter participated in the construction of the Suez Canal in 1858.
It operates within the electricity industry and, since 2016, the company has proactively invested in renewable energies, in parallel with the "distancing" of the coal business. Nevertheless, the largest energy segment in terms of capacity is gas, which accounts for 55%.
The company's main shareholder is the French government, which holds around 24% of the capital.
