Radio Maria is a private Catholic radio station owned by the Radio Maria Association. The Radio Maria Association was founded on January 12, 1987, and has its registered office in Erba (CO) at 12 Via Milano.since 1988 the director of Radio Maria Italia has been Father Livio Fanzaga. Since 2016 the president of Radio Maria has been Vittorio Viccardi. Radio Maria is heard throughout the country with 850 repeaters (equal to those of RAI). It broadcasts no advertising messages and no sponsorship or funding from private entities that could limit its freedom. The radio involves the humblest and the most educated people, the oldest as well as the youngest, and has become the most listened to Catholic mass media in Italy. One in ten Italians listens to Radio Maria.
